Mumbai, June 25: A significant update has emerged in the alleged ₹200 crore money laundering case involving Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez. The actress has withdrawn her petition filed in the Supreme Court regarding this matter. The Supreme Court has granted her permission to withdraw the petition. This case is linked to the alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar and is currently under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Reports indicate that Jacqueline Fernandez had previously challenged a ruling from a trial court in Delhi, which directed that charges be framed against her. She had approached the Supreme Court, but has now decided to retract her petition.
In court, her lawyer argued that they wish to pursue appropriate legal remedies in this case, hence the request to withdraw the petition. The Supreme Court accepted this request and allowed the withdrawal.
On May 30, the Patiala House Court in Delhi ordered the framing of charges against Jacqueline Fernandez, Sukesh Chandrashekhar, his wife Leena Paulose, and 14 others under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), based on evidence presented by the ED.
Investigating agencies allege that Sukesh Chandrashekhar impersonated a high-ranking official from government ministries to defraud individuals out of crores of rupees. The amount involved in this alleged scam is reported to be around ₹200 crores.
The ED’s investigation claims that a portion of this illicit income was spent on expensive gifts and luxury items. The agency states that Jacqueline Fernandez also received costly gifts linked to this network, which were allegedly purchased with money obtained from criminal activities. These gifts reportedly included luxury cars, branded items, jewelry, and other valuables.
Meanwhile, Jacqueline Fernandez’s legal team has consistently maintained that the actress is completely innocent in this matter. Her lawyers assert that she had no knowledge of Sukesh Chandrashekhar’s criminal activities and that she herself became a victim of this fraud.
