Kolkata, July 24: The preparations for the centenary celebration of legendary Bengali cinema icon Uttam Kumar are in full swing in West Bengal. Actress Rituparna Sengupta has shared her thoughts on this significant event. She praised the West Bengal government’s initiative, stating that Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s efforts to honor Uttam Kumar and organize special programs in his memory are truly commendable and a matter of pride.

Speaking to the media, Rituparna Sengupta expressed, “I believe it is an extraordinary and splendid initiative that our Chief Minister has taken steps to remember and honor the great Uttam Kumar. It is a matter of pride for all of us.”

She added, “I am associated with the Shilpi Sansad, which Uttam Kumar established to support needy artists. As its president, I feel immense pride that today the Chief Minister has decided to bring about several changes through this wonderful initiative.”

Rituparna revealed that several special events are planned around Uttam Kumar’s birthday on September 3. She emphasized that this year is particularly special as it marks the 100th birth anniversary of the legendary actor.

She mentioned, “The Chief Minister has talked about renovating the place associated with Uttam Kumar. Additionally, there are plans to host several major events around his birthday on September 3. We are going to celebrate the 100th anniversary of our great actor Uttam Kumar.”

The actress described Uttam Kumar as a unique artist whose popularity and contributions are unparalleled. Rituparna stated, “The great Uttam Kumar is one of a kind. He will always be remembered for who he was, and he will continue to be cherished in the future.”

The West Bengal government is preparing to celebrate Uttam Kumar’s centenary on a grand scale. The celebrations are scheduled to take place from September 3 to 6. During this time, there are plans to establish a new ‘Film Center’ in Uttam Kumar’s name to promote cinema and cultural activities.

Furthermore, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation has decided to renovate the traditional ‘Uttam Manch.’ The government’s objective is to ensure that the memories and artistic legacy of Uttam Kumar are passed down to future generations.
