Jerusalem, March 2: Reuven Azar, Israel’s Ambassador to India, stated on Monday that Israel and the United States are jointly maintaining control over Iranian airspace and targeting over 2,500 military installations. In an exclusive interview, he expressed hope for a potential regime change in Iran.
Azar mentioned that Israel has successfully neutralized and blocked most missiles aimed at its territory. Like India, Israel seeks peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. He also referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Israel.
When asked about the current situation in Israel following significant attacks from Iran, Azar reported that Israel is facing ongoing assaults but has intercepted most missiles and drones coming from Iran. He noted that attacks from Hezbollah in the north were also thwarted. Unfortunately, a ballistic missile strike resulted in the deaths of nine civilians in Beit Shemesh, with nearly 50 others injured. On a positive note, he highlighted that most missiles targeting Israel have been neutralized.
Regarding the possibility of regime change in Iran, Azar expressed optimism, stating that it ultimately depends on the Iranian people. He acknowledged that millions of Iranians recently demonstrated a desire for change. However, he lamented the brutality of the Iranian regime, which has resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians. Through ongoing attacks, Israel aims to diminish the Iranian regime’s capacity to strike while also targeting key Revolutionary Guard headquarters. He hopes this will encourage the Iranian populace to return to the streets and demand the change they deserve.
When asked about the challenges following the death of Supreme Leader Khamenei, Azar emphasized the need to continue reducing military capabilities. He believes this will create a situation where Iran can no longer threaten Israel, other regional countries, or U.S. bases. He warned that if the remaining leadership does not change their course, they will face dire consequences.
On Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, Azar expressed high regard, particularly for his recent visit to Israel, which fostered warmth between the Indian and Israeli peoples. He noted that their relationship is based not only on mutual interests but also on shared values and heritage, marking a historic milestone in their ties. Azar affirmed that Israel views India as a reliable partner in seeking peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
Regarding the possibility of ground operations in Iran, Azar stated that Israel is currently conducting airstrikes. While limited ground action may be necessary to eliminate specific threats, he is not aware of plans for large-scale troop deployments.
Finally, when asked about Iran’s attacks on oil tankers, Azar remarked that the tensions escalated by Iran would ultimately backfire. He condemned the targeting of civilian infrastructure in the UAE, Bahrain, and other regional nations as entirely unnecessary. He believes Iran’s attempts to disrupt oil trade will fail, and as military operations continue, their capabilities will weaken, leading to a decrease in chaos in the coming days or weeks.
