China-UK Trade Connection Conference Held in Edinburgh

Edinburgh, March 13: The China-UK (Scotland) Trade Connection Conference and the fourth China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE) promotional event recently took place in Edinburgh.

Over 100 representatives from the political, business, and educational sectors of China and the UK participated, discussing new opportunities for bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

Ren Hongpin, president of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), led the Chinese business delegation and addressed the conference. He stated that the foundation for China-UK economic and trade cooperation is strong, with vast potential for growth. CCPIT is prepared to work with the UK across all sectors to promote the expansion and quality improvement of bilateral trade. This includes tapping into new business models such as service trade and e-commerce, deepening collaboration in emerging industries like artificial intelligence (AI), clean energy, and the digital economy, and strengthening supply chain coordination.

John Primrose, Deputy Director of the Export and Foreign Investment Department of the Scotland International Trade and Investment Agency, noted that Chinese enterprises have created numerous job opportunities through their investments in Scotland. The Scottish government will continue to support local businesses in developing economic and trade partnerships with Chinese companies and welcomes further investment from Chinese enterprises.

Chinese Consul General in Edinburgh, Qiang Piao, and CEO of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (London), Hu Fang, also delivered speeches at the conference. British business representatives expressed appreciation for the stability brought by China’s economic development to global industrial and supply chains and expressed hopes for practical cooperation with Chinese companies in areas such as green transformation and financial services.

Peter Barnett, chairman of the China-UK Trade Council, emphasized the need for all parties to collaborate in building strong, reliable, and sustainable supply chains in the face of geopolitical challenges.

During the conference, the China International Exhibition Center Group promoted the fourth CISCE and signed cooperation agreements with relevant UK institutions.
