Islamic Scholar Responds to Rahul Gandhis Comments on Non-Vegetarianism

Islamic scholar Mufti Wajahat Qasmi criticizes Rahul Gandhis remarks on non-vegetarianism, emphasizing Indias cultural values and advocating for a uniform civil code.

New Delhi, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : Islamic scholar Mufti Wajahat Qasmi has sharply responded to comments made by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi regarding non-vegetarian food. During a recent statement, Qasmi emphasized that India is a land of Sanatan culture, which does not embrace meat consumption as part of its traditions.

Qasmi remarked, “India is a land of Sanatan civilization, and there is no place for non-vegetarian food in its culture. I am not sure what Rahul Gandhi is thinking or what has led him to make such comments. If he wishes to consume non-vegetarian food, there is no issue; no one is stopping him. However, every nation should use such occasions to showcase its culture and traditions.”

He further stated that India has demonstrated its cultural heritage to the world, reinforcing the strength of its identity. Qasmi suggested that Gandhi should recognize the power of India, as illustrated by the BRICS summit, which highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.

In his advice to Gandhi, Qasmi cautioned against making trivial statements, as they only diminish his stature.

Additionally, Qasmi welcomed the announcement for the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) across the country. He asserted, “The UCC will play a crucial role in the country’s development. It is already in place in many developed and educated nations. We need ‘one country, one law, and one constitution’ to ensure a uniform system throughout India.”

He criticized the existence of different personal laws for various communities, noting that Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was the first to implement the UCC in the state, with preparations underway in other regions as well. Qasmi expressed hope that under the NDA government, the UCC would be implemented nationwide.

Regarding the recent closure of 252 madrasas in West Bengal, Qasmi pointed out that madrasas serve as centers for religious education. He highlighted the confusion created by political interference in the region, particularly under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, who he claimed allowed illegal constructions of mosques and madrasas.

Qasmi praised the NDA government’s adherence to the law, stating that if madrasas or mosques are being closed or sealed legally, it is a positive development that Muslims should welcome, as Islam does not condone illegal establishments.

On the occasion of the India-Afghanistan T-20 match, Qasmi expressed his approval of the national song “Vande Mataram” being sung at the event. He noted, “The national song has been given legal respect equivalent to the national anthem. It is a joyous occasion for the country. I hope people across the nation will sing ‘Vande Mataram’ with the same respect and express their patriotism. I pray that those who oppose it are granted wisdom.”
