Ahmedabad Metro Extends Hours for Navratri Celebrations

Ahmedabad Metro will operate until 2 AM from October 14 to 19 for Navratri, with special tickets available for late-night travel.

Ahmedabad, October 14 (Daily Kiran) : The Ahmedabad Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) has announced extended operating hours for the metro services during the Navratri festival. From October 14 to 19, the metro will run until 2 AM to accommodate late-night travelers. Passengers will need to purchase a special paper ticket priced at ₹50 for this extended service.

Currently, metro services operate from 6:20 AM to 11 PM. Under the new schedule, trains on the Vastral Gam, Thaltej Gam, and APMC-Koteshwar Road corridors will run every 30 minutes, while services on the APMC-Sector 1 corridor will operate hourly during the late-night hours.

On the Vastral Gam-Thaltej Gam corridor, the last trains will depart Vastral Gam at 2 AM and Thaltej Gam at 2:12 AM. For the APMC-Koteshwar Road corridor, the last trains will leave APMC at 2:14 AM and Koteshwar Road at 2:07 AM. On the APMC-Sector 1 corridor, the final trains will depart APMC at 12:44 AM and Sector 1 at 12:38 AM.

The GMRC specified that only the ₹50 special paper tickets will be valid during the extended hours. These tickets will be available at all metro stations and can be used for a single journey.

In addition, the Ahmedabad police reported minimal traffic congestion during the first three days of Navratri, although some jams were noted on SG Highway, Ring Road, and major junctions after Garba events concluded for the night. The city’s control room is monitoring traffic with 4,300 cameras, including 3,300 installed under the Smart City Project and 1,000 under the Nirbhaya Project.

The police received three calls related to traffic jams on October 11, nine on October 12, and five on October 13, with response times under ten minutes. This is a significant decrease compared to approximately 45 calls received during the same period last year. Authorities attribute this improvement to effective traffic management, road engineering measures, and public cooperation.

To ensure safety during the festival, the police deployed 49 SHE team vehicles, 12 Abhayam helpline vehicles, 49 special Garba vehicles, and 129 patrol cars, including those from the Jan Suraksha Dial 112 initiative. In the first three days of the festival, four women who sought help were safely transported to their homes.

SHE teams visited major Garba venues and street events, monitored the CCTV control room, and utilized body-worn cameras for enhanced security.
