New Delhi, June 18: India triumphed over Afghanistan by 170 runs in the second ODI match played on Wednesday. Ishan Kishan played a crucial role in this victory, expressing his joy over his successful return to the ODI format. He stated that wearing the Indian jersey again in ODI cricket fills him with immense pride.
Ishan faced just 79 balls, scoring an impressive 125 runs. His innings included 14 boundaries and 7 towering sixes. Alongside captain Shubman Gill, he formed a remarkable partnership for the second wicket, amassing 224 runs off 140 balls. Thanks to their century-making efforts, the Indian team posted a formidable total of 402 runs on the scoreboard.
Reflecting on his return to the ODI team, Ishan emphasized that representing India holds more significance than any personal achievement. In a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on the social media platform ‘X’, he remarked, “I feel very proud right now because I am wearing this jersey after a long time. I am even happier to be part of a team that blends experienced and young players. I just hope to contribute to India winning more matches.” Ishan last played an ODI match in 2023 before this series against Afghanistan.
He also mentioned that he prefers focusing on how he can contribute to the team’s success rather than on his individual records. He said, “I believe that for us as athletes, it never ends. We just keep playing. That’s why I want to help every player in my team. My desire is to perform well every time I step onto the field wearing this jersey.”
In the second ODI, India batted first, scoring 402 runs. Besides Ishan’s explosive 125, captain Shubman Gill also delivered a stellar performance, scoring 154 runs off 110 balls. In pursuit of a massive target of 403 runs, the entire Afghan team was bowled out for 232 runs.
