Integrated Horticulture Development Mission Launched in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir

Doda, March 23: A two-day conference-workshop was organized on Monday by the Department of Agriculture Production and Farmers’ Welfare in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, under the Integrated Horticulture Development Mission (MIDH). This centrally sponsored scheme aims to support local farmers.

The MIDH initiative provides financial assistance (subsidies) to farmers for cultivating fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, spices, and flowers. The theme of the program was “Strengthening Sustainable Agriculture through Climate-Smart Practices and Enhanced Agricultural Productivity,” held at the Community Hall in Doda.

This awareness program was designed for all farmers in the Doda district, where they received information about various schemes sponsored by the central government and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Farmer Basharat Ali Malik shared that he has been benefiting from various government schemes designed for farmers. He stated, “I have been involved in agriculture since 2006, and I earn around 5 to 6 lakh rupees annually from my farming. Additionally, we also receive subsidies from the department.”

The scheme covers 60% of the costs associated with projects related to nurseries, polyhouses, garden expansion, and post-harvest management (90% in northeastern and Himalayan states). He expressed gratitude to the government and the agriculture department. Department officials provide farmers with information about all government schemes and encourage them to take advantage of these initiatives.

Doda’s Mushroom Development Officer, Sushil Ratan Sharma, emphasized their commitment to ensuring that every scheme, whether from the central government or the Union Territory, reaches farmers at the grassroots level. In Doda, they are currently registering farmers under the MIDH schemes initiated by the central government and actively spreading awareness about all available benefits and initiatives for farmers.

He reiterated that MIDH is a centrally sponsored scheme that provides financial assistance (subsidies) for cultivating fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, spices, and flowers.
