New Delhi, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Indian kabaddi player Brijendra Singh Choudhary has faced disciplinary action after testing positive for brinzolamide at the sixth Asian Beach Games held in Sanya. The International Testing Agency (ITA) announced the results on Tuesday.
Choudhary’s urine sample was collected on April 27, 2026, during the competition’s doping control. The sample revealed an “Adverse Analytical Finding” for brinzolamide, which is classified as a prohibited substance by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Brinzolamide falls under WADA’s list as a “Specified Substance” and is categorized as a diuretic and masking agent. It is banned both during and outside of competition periods.
Choudhary has acknowledged his violation of anti-doping regulations, leading to the disqualification of his results from the Asian Beach Games, including his second-place finish in the men’s kabaddi event.
He was part of India’s six-member men’s kabaddi team, which included players like Jitender Yadav, Yatharth Deshwal, Neeraj, Jai Bhagwan, and Bhanu Pratap Tomar. The team advanced to the finals after defeating Pakistan 50-27 in the semifinals. However, they fell short against Iran in the gold medal match, losing 44-31 after trailing 11-23 at halftime. This marked India’s second consecutive silver medal in men’s kabaddi at the Asian Beach Games, having also finished as runners-up in the previous edition.
The ITA’s actions were in accordance with the anti-doping regulations enforced by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). The case will now be forwarded to the International Kabaddi Federation for further decisions based on their regulations. The ITA stated that the matter has been resolved from the OCA’s perspective, but parties with the right to appeal can challenge the decision in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) under the OCA’s anti-doping rules.
In a contrasting outcome, India’s women’s kabaddi team secured a gold medal by defeating Sri Lanka 47-31 in the finals, continuing their streak of six consecutive titles in women’s kabaddi at the Asian Beach Games.
