President Murmu Congratulates Asian Games Medalists, Celebrates Indian Pride

New Delhi, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : President Droupadi Murmu extended her heartfelt congratulations to the Indian women’s 4×400 meter relay team for winning the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games. She also acknowledged the mixed 4×100 meter and men’s 4×400 meter relay teams for securing bronze medals.

The women’s relay team, consisting of Kirandeep Pehal, M.R. Poovamma, Prachi, and Vithya, clinched the gold with a time of 3:29.69 seconds. In a post on the social media platform X, President Murmu praised the athletes, stating, “I warmly congratulate Kirandeep Pehal, Poovamma Machettira, Prachi Chaudhary, and Vithya Ramraj for their historic gold medal win in the women’s 4×400 meter relay at the Asian Games 2026. This victory marks India’s first gold in this event, filling every Indian with pride as our national anthem plays. The memories of this golden moment will be cherished for years to come and inspire many young girls to dream big.”

The men’s 4×400 meter relay team, featuring Dharmveer Chaudhary, Manu Thikkinal, Jai Kumar, and Vishal Thenarasu, secured a bronze medal with a time of 3:01.61 seconds. President Murmu commended their efforts, saying, “Congratulations to Dharmveer Chaudhary, Manu Thikkinal, Jai Kumar, and Vishal Thenarasu for winning the bronze medal in the men’s 4×400 meter relay at the Asian Games 2026. May this achievement encourage you to continue striving for excellence and bring even more glory to our country.”

In another highlight, Gulveer Singh made history by achieving a medal hat-trick at the Asian Games 2026. He won bronze in the men’s 5000 meters final on Tuesday, adding to his previous silver medals in the 10,000 meters and 1500 meters events. President Murmu celebrated his accomplishment, stating, “Congratulations to Gulveer Singh for winning the bronze medal in the men’s 5000 meters race and achieving a remarkable milestone. Securing podium finishes in three different distances at the same edition of the Games demonstrates extraordinary endurance, determination, and consistency. I wish you further success in your athletic journey.”

India’s mixed 4×100 meter relay team also made headlines by setting a new national record with a bronze medal finish in 41.06 seconds. The President lauded the team, saying, “Heartfelt congratulations to Gurinderveer Singh, Sneha Shanavalli Sathyanarayana, Animesh Kujur, and Harita Bhadra for winning the bronze medal in the mixed 4×100 meter relay at the Asian Games 2026. Additionally, Pooja ended a 24-year drought for India in women’s high jump by winning bronze with a leap of 1.84 meters. President Murmu praised her, saying, “Congratulations to Pooja for winning the bronze medal in the women’s high jump at the Asian Games 2026. Your remarkable performance showcases your skill and determination. Keep setting new records and reaching new heights of success.”

In boxing, Indian athlete Narendra Berwal claimed a bronze medal in the men’s 90+ kg category after facing Kazakhstan’s Orlabey. The President expressed her admiration, stating, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Narendra Berwal for winning the bronze medal in the men’s 90+ kg boxing event at the Asian Games 2026. Your impressive performance in the ring has brought honor to our country and added another proud achievement to Indian boxing. I wish you continued success in your sporting journey.”
