Guwahati, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : West Indies received a significant blow in their ODI series against India as all-rounder Justin Greaves has been ruled out of the second match due to a calf injury. Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced on Tuesday that Greaves sustained the injury while batting during the first ODI in Thiruvananthapuram, where he scored a century.
In the first match, Greaves scored 101 runs, but West Indies could not defend their total of 295 runs, allowing India to clinch victory by eight wickets. CWI stated, “Justin Greaves is out of the second ODI against India due to a calf injury sustained during the first match.”
Greaves’ absence is a significant setback for the visiting team. He played a crucial role in building a partnership of 135 runs with John Campbell over 19 overs. After Greaves was dismissed, Indian bowlers made a strong comeback.
Besides Greaves, Campbell contributed 62 runs, and Aamir Jangoo remained unbeaten with 58 runs, helping West Indies reach a score of 295/7. Kuldeep Yadav stood out with four wickets, while Prasidh Krishna took two.
In response, India achieved their target in 41.4 overs. Rohit Sharma and captain Shubman Gill opened with a partnership of 74 runs. Rohit scored 32 runs before Gill, who hit 14 boundaries, made 110 runs. Gill’s partnership with Virat Kohli for the second wicket added 151 runs, leading India to an easy victory after a solid 75-run partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad.
