Indian Hockey Captain Harmanpreet Singh Discusses Key Strategies Ahead of Pakistan Match

London, June 25: The Indian hockey team is set to face Pakistan once again in the FIH Pro League 2025-26 this Friday. Captain Harmanpreet Singh emphasized that the team aims to avoid repeating the minor mistakes made in their previous encounter.

In their last match against Pakistan on Tuesday, India showcased a stellar performance, winning 4-3. However, Pakistan provided a tough challenge. In an interview, Captain Harmanpreet stated, “The mistakes we made were small, but we do not want to repeat them. It will obviously be a good match. However, we must first focus on our game against England.”

Harmanpreet further added, “In the upcoming match against Pakistan, we want to avoid making small errors and will strive to apply pressure from the start. Our goal is to gain an early lead against Pakistan. The Indian team has an impressive record against them, remaining unbeaten in the last 18 encounters.”

The captain noted that the FIH Pro League is crucial for the team’s preparation ahead of the World Cup. He remarked, “This is a vital time for experimentation and improvement. We are playing against strong teams, and getting matches before the World Cup is a positive aspect. We are very excited to face top teams before the World Cup.”

When asked about the lessons learned from the tournament so far, Harmanpreet highlighted the importance of capitalizing on opportunities. He stated, “We need to focus on our penalty corner attacks and improve our defense. Staying alert and quick is essential.” Currently, the Indian team is positioned eighth in the standings, having played 13 matches, with three wins, seven losses, and three draws.
