PT Usha: Every Medal at CWG Inspires Team India

New Delhi, July 28: The President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), PT Usha, believes that the increasing number of medals for Team India at the 2026 Commonwealth Games is instilling a wave of confidence throughout the team. According to Usha, every success achieved in Glasgow is motivating the athletes who are yet to compete.

In a release issued by the IOA, PT Usha stated, “This is the most beautiful aspect of multi-sport games. You see a weightlifter celebrating the performance of a swimmer, a boxer cheering on another athlete, or a lawn bowls player congratulating someone from a different sport. Even though they compete in different disciplines, they wear the same jersey and represent the same country. This creates a very special bond.”

Reflecting on her own experiences as an athlete, the legendary sprinter remarked, “I have been an athlete myself. I know how much it means to have your teammates standing by you. The medals won so far have been celebrated by the entire team. This shared sense of pride gives confidence to those athletes who still have to compete. It reminds everyone that we are not here as individuals, but as Team India.”

India’s efforts in Glasgow have gained momentum across various sports. The team started strong with a medal in para powerlifting, followed by impressive results from weightlifters. Olympic gold medalist Mirabai Chanu once again led India’s performance by winning a gold medal, while Khyanaeshwari Devi and Bindyarani Devi also secured podium finishes, strengthening India’s position among the top weightlifting nations in the Commonwealth.

This success has extended beyond weightlifting; India’s para-athletes continued their excellent form by winning gold and bronze in shot put, and Sarvesh Kushare earned a silver medal in men’s high jump under challenging conditions in Glasgow. These achievements have boosted the confidence of the athletics team.

A spirit of unity prevails among all Indian athletes. Both able-bodied and para-athletes equally celebrate each other’s successes. Coaches, physiotherapists, doctors, and other support staff travel from venue to venue, providing technical assistance and encouragement. This environment has further solidified the belief that every medal belongs not to a single athlete or sport, but to the entire Indian team.
