London, June 25: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has provided an important update regarding the fitness of team captain Nat Sciver-Brunt. The ECB announced that while Sciver-Brunt is recovering quickly, she will not participate in the final group stage match against New Zealand.
Sciver-Brunt missed the recent match against the West Indies, where Charlie Dean captained the team in her absence. England secured their place in the semifinals with a victory over the West Indies, prompting the team to avoid taking any risks with Sciver-Brunt’s injury.
Sciver-Brunt is currently dealing with a calf issue. Following the win against the West Indies, the ECB confirmed that she had batted in the nets earlier in the day but would not be available for the group match against New Zealand. The ECB stated, “The England women’s team confirms that Nat Sciver-Brunt underwent an MRI scan, which revealed she is recovering rapidly. She batted in the nets on Wednesday. However, while her calf treatment is progressing well, the medical team believes she requires further rehabilitation before being fully fit and available for selection. Therefore, she will not participate in the match against New Zealand.”
Sciver-Brunt sustained this injury during the match against Ireland. She retired hurt during batting due to a strain in her left calf. At the time, England needed nine runs, and Sciver-Brunt left the field after scoring 48 runs, feeling tightness in her calf. After the match, the ECB confirmed that scans indicated a muscle strain. Sciver-Brunt also missed the match against Scotland. England has performed exceptionally well in the tournament so far, winning all four of their matches.
