
New Delhi, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar held a meeting on Sunday with Admiral Samuel J. Paparo, the Commander of the United States Pacific Command, in New Delhi. The discussions focused on advancing security partnerships and maritime cooperation between the two nations. Admiral Paparo is on a six-day official visit to India, accompanied by U.S. Ambassador to India, Sergio Gore.
Jaishankar expressed his satisfaction on social media platform X, stating, “It was a pleasure to meet Admiral Samuel J. Paparo of the U.S. Pacific Command. We discussed enhancing our security partnership and maritime cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.”
Admiral Paparo arrived in New Delhi on Saturday, aiming to strengthen defense ties between India and the U.S. Upon his arrival, he received a warm welcome from Ambassador Gore.
During his visit, Admiral Paparo is expected to engage in talks with Indian officials regarding shared security priorities. Key topics include leveraging digital transformation and new technologies, maintaining strategic stability in the region, enhancing energy security in defense, and addressing the rapidly growing technological competition.
The U.S. Embassy in India released a statement highlighting that, “From new technologies to maritime security, the U.S. and India are developing a defense partnership capable of addressing future challenges.”
The embassy further emphasized that Admiral Paparo’s visit underscores the solid defense partnership between the two countries while reaffirming America’s long-standing presence and interests in the Indian Ocean region.
Earlier, on September 28, Indian Army Chief General Dheeraj Seth met with Lieutenant General Joel B. Vowell, the Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army Pacific Command, in New Delhi. They discussed the evolving security landscape in the Indo-Pacific and explored ways to enhance cooperation between India and the U.S.
The Indian Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information noted on X that, “Lieutenant General Joel B. Vowell met with Army Chief General Dheeraj Seth on September 28. Both discussed the changing security conditions in the Indo-Pacific region and opportunities for bilateral defense cooperation.”
The discussions also covered methods to enhance joint training and military exercises, demonstrating improved coordination between the two armed forces and reaffirming their commitment to strengthening military cooperation.
