Indian Embassy Issues Update Amid Rising Tensions in the Middle East

New Delhi, March 15: The situation in West Asia has escalated due to tensions between Iran and Israeli-American forces. This unrest is impacting the education of students residing in these countries. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released a circular on March 15, 2026, regarding the Class 12 board exams for students in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, including Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

In its advisory, the Indian Embassy in Oman stated, “This update follows the circulars issued on March 1, March 3, March 5, March 7, and March 9, 2026. Based on inputs and appeals from schools and authorities in the affected countries, a review of the possibility of conducting the Class 12 board exams has been undertaken.”

The advisory further noted, “The board has decided to cancel all Class 12 exams scheduled from March 16 to March 10 for students in Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. Additionally, exams that were postponed due to the earlier circulars on March 1, March 3, March 5, March 7, and March 9 will also be canceled. The method for announcing results for Class 12 students in these countries will be communicated separately in due course.”

Previously, the embassy had informed that after the postponement of the exams, new dates would be announced later. The embassy also mentioned that the CBSE would review the situation on March 10 and make appropriate decisions regarding the exams scheduled to start on March 12.

Earlier, the Indian Embassy in Oman had communicated that, in light of the Iran-Israel conflict, the Class 12 board exams scheduled for March 9, 10, and 11 in affiliated schools across Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE had been postponed.

The advisory indicated that after a thorough assessment of the current conditions in parts of the Middle East (Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE), the board decided to postpone the exams originally set for March 9, March 10, and March 11, 2026.
