New Delhi, June 3: Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved significant highway projects on Wednesday. The projects involve upgrading the existing four-lane standards of National Highway (NH)-63 from Armur to Jagitial and the Jagitial to Karimnagar section of National Highway (NH)-563. These upgrades will be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) and Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) toll model, respectively.
The total length of these highways will be 190.76 kilometers, with a capital cost of ₹7,597.16 crore. The Armur-Jagitial-Mancharial project will traverse through the densely populated districts of Nizamabad, Jagitial, and Mancharial. This area currently faces severe traffic congestion due to several bustling towns along the route, including Ankasapur, Korutla, Jagitial, Dharmapuri, Lakshettipet, and Mancharial.
Similarly, the Jagitial-Karimnagar section will pass through heavily populated areas such as Jagitial, Potharam, Gangadhara, and Karimnagar.
The government stated that the proposed projects will facilitate the construction of four-lane highways in Nizamabad, Jagitial, Mancharial, and Karimnagar districts. This will include bypasses for urban areas and open tolling facilities, ensuring a designated speed of 100 km/h and improving travel efficiency. The project aims to enhance regional mobility and promote socio-economic development.
Upon completion, the travel time between Armur and Mancharial is expected to reduce to approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, while the journey between Jagitial and Karimnagar will take about 45 minutes less. This will provide safe, fast, and seamless connectivity for both passenger and freight transport. The project is also anticipated to significantly reduce fuel consumption, carbon emissions, and vehicle operating costs (VOC).
According to official statements, these projects are expected to create 34.43 lakh man-days of direct employment and 42.7 lakh man-days of indirect employment.
These initiatives align with the Prime Minister’s Gati Shakti principles, connecting five economic centers, seven social centers, and ten logistics centers. This is expected to positively impact the country’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI).
