New Delhi, August 2: The 10th day of the Commonwealth Games 2026 was a memorable one for India. The nation secured 10 medals in boxing and a total of 16 medals overall. President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan congratulated the athletes who elevated the country’s honor in Glasgow, Scotland, wishing them success for the future.

The President extended her congratulations to long-distance runner Gulveer Singh for winning both a silver and a bronze medal on the same day. She wrote on her social media platform, X, “Congratulations to Gulveer Singh for winning the bronze medal in the men’s 5000 meters at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026. This achievement marks India’s first medal in this event at the Commonwealth Games and adds another glorious chapter to your remarkable journey following your previous success in the men’s 10,000 meters. Winning the first medals for India in both events is a fantastic accomplishment that will inspire countless young athletes to excel in long-distance running and elevate the nation’s pride.”

President Murmu also praised the boxers for their outstanding performances. She noted on X, “India’s boxing campaign concluded splendidly. Congratulations to Narendra Berwal for winning the silver medal in the men’s 90+ kg boxing event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026. You represented India excellently in a tough match and delivered a remarkable performance. This success will further strengthen your resolve to achieve even greater accomplishments in the future.”

“I congratulate Ankush Panghal for winning the gold medal in the men’s 80 kg boxing event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026. While praising boxer Sachin for winning the gold medal in the 60 kg category, the President said, “Heartfelt congratulations to Sachin Sivach for winning the gold medal in the men’s 60 kg boxing competition at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026. Your steadfast performance in a closely contested final secured you the top spot on the podium. Regarding female boxer Lovlina’s silver medal, President Droupadi Murmu wrote, “Congratulations to Lovlina Borgohain for winning the silver medal in the women’s 75 kg boxing competition at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026.
