Rajkot, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : India’s Under-19 cricket team secured a commanding victory over Australia on September 21, winning the second match of their unofficial ODI series by 103 runs at Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. This win allowed the host team to take a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
The Indian team had previously triumphed in the first match on September 18, winning by just 7 runs despite rain interruptions that reduced the game to 30 overs per side. The final match of the series is scheduled for September 23 at the same venue, after which both teams will compete in a two-match Test series.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, India posted an impressive total of 341 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs. Captain Lakshya Raichandani opened the innings with Aryaveer Sehwag, adding 46 runs for the first wicket before Lakshya was dismissed for 11 runs. Aryaveer then partnered with VK Vineet, contributing 55 runs for the second wicket and helping the team cross the century mark. He scored 47 runs off 48 balls, hitting 9 boundaries.
Vineet continued the momentum, forming a significant partnership of 132 runs with Yashvardhan Chauhan for the third wicket. Vineet scored 87 runs, including 6 sixes and 4 fours. Yashvardhan then teamed up with Kushagra Ojha to add 84 runs off just 44 balls for the fourth wicket, pushing India past 300 runs. Yashvardhan finished with a stellar 122 runs from 100 balls, featuring 6 boundaries, while Kushagra contributed 34 runs. For Australia, Thomas Vaseo claimed 3 wickets, and Patrick Sullivan took 2.
In response, Australia’s Under-19 team struggled, being bowled out for 238 runs in 41.1 overs. They lost both openers for just 29 runs. Captain Jack Kazosnek and Matthew Loff managed to stabilize the innings with a 43-run partnership for the third wicket, bringing the score to 72. Matthew scored 42 runs off 40 balls, hitting 10 fours, while Jack made a valiant effort with 81 runs from 63 balls, including 4 sixes and 7 fours. Blake Cattle added 44 runs, and Jade Hollick contributed 33, but their efforts were not enough to secure victory.
From the Indian bowling attack, Chigurupati Venkata was the standout, taking 3 wickets, while Kavy Patel and Yashvardhan Chauhan each captured 2 wickets. Mohit, Manal Chauhan, and Yashveer Gaud chipped in with 1 wicket apiece.
