New Delhi, August 2: President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the PBJ Soldierthon by flagging it off at a ceremony held in the President’s House courtyard. Mizoram Governor General VK Singh, who is the patron of this initiative, was also present.
The event, themed “Run with Soldiers, Run for Soldiers,” aims to promote fitness and patriotism while honoring the courage, sacrifice, and service of India’s armed forces. Soldiers and civilians participated together, showcasing solidarity with the armed forces. Participants carried the national flag and banners of the event, expressing unity and gratitude towards the nation’s soldiers.
The President remarked, “Inspired by the vision of ‘Run for Soldiers, Run with Soldiers,’ the Soldierthon serves as a unique platform to strengthen the relationship between civilians and the armed forces. Based on the theme of supporting our real heroes (the armed forces), this event honors the dedication, courage, and sacrifice of our soldiers while encouraging citizens to show solidarity through active participation.”
Meanwhile, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth flagged off the NCC Cyclothon 2026 at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, celebrating 79 years of India’s independence. Olympic medalist and boxer Mary Kom also participated in the event.
Mansukh Mandaviya stated, “Today is special. As part of the celebrations for 79 years of India’s independence, 79 NCC cadets are participating in this cyclothon. The NCC symbolizes fitness, discipline, and community service. These cadets are the future of our nation and our hope. Through this cyclothon, you are sending a message that the youth will play their role in building a developed India.”
At the NCC Cyclothon 2026, Mary Kom emphasized, “The NCC Cyclothon 2026 took place in Delhi. I want to tell the youth that achieving a lot in life is essential. The NCC uniform is not just a piece of clothing; it represents a commitment to serving the nation. It is crucial to teach this to children.”
Additionally, the 84th edition of the “Fit India Sundays on Cycle,” themed “Nasha Mukt Bharat,” was launched from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi.
