Aichi, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian women’s kabaddi team launched their campaign at the 2026 Asian Games with an impressive victory over Bangladesh, winning 42-21 in their first Group A match held at the Tokai Citizens Gymnasium on September 21.
From the outset, India established control over the game, making it difficult for Bangladesh to reach the bonus line. The team displayed a disciplined defense coupled with consistent attacking pressure, with Sanju Devi playing a pivotal role in the offense.
Despite efforts from Bangladesh’s captain, Shraboni Maulik, to add points to the scoreboard, India’s defense effectively limited their scoring opportunities. Manisha Kumari stood out as a left cover, while Sonali Shinget and captain Pushpa Rana contributed crucial points in attack. By halftime, India had executed an all-out and led 21-10.
In the second half, India maintained their momentum. Sanju Devi and Pooja executed quick hand touches, and the defense held a high line, applying pressure on Bangladesh’s raiders. This strategy paid off as India executed another all-out, with Sanju continuing to score through successful raids.
As the match neared its conclusion, Bangladesh attempted a comeback. Shraboni and other raiders began to score points, and their defense started to slow India’s pace. With just five minutes left, the gap narrowed, but Sanju Devi responded with several successful raids, restoring India’s significant lead and securing the victory at 42-21.
India’s total included 11 bonus points and four all-out points, while Bangladesh managed five bonus points and one super tackle point. The women’s team aims to continue their winning streak against Iran on Wednesday morning at 8:30 AM.
