
Ulaanbaatar, June 20: A 40-member team from the Indian Army participated in the opening ceremony of the multinational military exercise ‘Khaan Quest 2026’ held in Mongolia’s capital, Ulaanbaatar, on Saturday. The contingent includes two female officers, and the exercise will run until July 3.
The event is taking place at the ‘Five Hills Training Area.’
The Indian Army stated on the social media platform X, “This exercise brings together armies from around the world to enhance interoperability and cooperation in peace support operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.”
The Army further emphasized its commitment to global peace, stability, and international cooperation, asserting its active and constructive role in advancing UN peacekeeping missions.
According to the Ministry of Defense, Khaan Quest 2026 reflects India’s commitment to global peacekeeping and strengthens operational readiness, professional experience exchange, mutual trust, and camaraderie among participating nations.
The opening ceremony was inaugurated by Mongolia’s Defense Minister Batlout Damba and the Chief of Defense Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces, Ganbayar Sunrev.
India’s Ambassador to Mongolia, Atul Malhari Gotsurve, was also present at the ceremony.
Over 1,000 soldiers from 18 countries are participating in this exercise.
The Indian Embassy in Mongolia reported on X, “The 40-member Indian contingent from the Jat Regiment, including two female officers, is taking part in this exercise. Approximately 18 countries have sent their representatives to this event. Ambassador Gotsurve welcomed the Indian team and wished them success in their participation.”
The previous edition of this military exercise was held in Mongolia from June 14 to 28 last year.
The Ministry of Defense noted that Khaan Quest began in 2003 as a bilateral exercise between the United States and Mongolia. Since 2006, it has evolved into a multilateral peacekeeping exercise, with the current edition marking its 23rd iteration.
