Congress Delegation Demands Action Against Minister Vijay Shah in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal, September 1: A delegation of Congress legislators, led by the Leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Umang Singhar, met with Governor Mangubhai Patel on Tuesday. They demanded action against Minister Vijay Shah for his comments regarding military officer Sofia Quraishi. The Congress party submitted a memorandum stating that no individual, regardless of their ministerial position, is above the law.

The memorandum presented to the Governor highlighted that the state cabinet has not yet made a necessary decision to grant prosecution approval against Minister Vijay Shah. In a constitutional governance system, no one, including ministers, is above the law. When it comes to compliance with directives from the Supreme Court, it is essential for the government to make fair, transparent, and lawful decisions promptly.

The Congress legislators urged the Governor to reconsider the sensitivity of the matter and to expedite the approval for prosecution against Minister Vijay Shah. Legislators Arif Masood and Suresh Raje were also present during the meeting.

Previously, Jitu Patwari, the president of the Madhya Pradesh Congress unit, accused Minister Vijay Shah of receiving political protection after making controversial remarks about military officer Sofia Quraishi. In a letter to President Droupadi Murmu, he stated that Shah’s objectionable comments about Colonel Sofia Quraishi, a brave daughter of the nation and an officer in the Indian Army, not only disrespected her but also insulted the entire armed forces. He mentioned that there are discussions in political circles about the state government’s reluctance to grant approval for prosecution against the minister.

The controversy arose during Operation Sindoor when Minister Vijay Shah allegedly made contentious remarks about military officer Sofia Quraishi. The court took cognizance of the matter on its own. However, following the escalation of the issue, Minister Shah issued an apology for his statement.
