Imphal, September 1: Nine Naga legislators from Manipur have appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for immediate action against Kuki leaders following recent incidents, including the alleged murder of six Naga citizens and the mutilation of their bodies.
In a letter addressed to Amit Shah, the legislators urged the central government to ensure the prompt arrest of the Kuki leaders who publicly claimed responsibility for the killings and mutilation of the six Naga individuals.
The legislators also called for action against Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and her husband, KNF-P leader Thangboi Kipgen, accusing them of having ties to Kuki militant groups and the recent violence. These allegations were included in the letter but have not been independently verified. They demanded the immediate cancellation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with Kuki militant groups, citing repeated violations and attacks on civilians.
The letter referenced an attack on August 27 on the Imphal-Tamenglong road, which resulted in the deaths of four Naga individuals, as well as previous incidents on NH-202 in TM Kasom and alleged attacks and arson in Langka village, where two farmers were killed. The legislators warned that if their demands were not met, it would be challenging for them to continue supporting the Manipur government. They emphasized that their appeal was made in the broader interest of restoring peace and normalcy in the state.
Signatories of the letter to Amit Shah included Deputy Chief Minister Loci Dikho, Naga Legislators’ Forum convenor Awangbo Nyumai, Secretary J. Kumo Sha, HAC Chairman Dinganglung Gangmei, and legislators Khasim Washum, Leshio Kishing, Janghemlung Panmei, Ram Muivah, and S.S. Olish.
