Srinagar, April 1: The Indian Army has successfully neutralized a terrorist during an encounter in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir. According to an official statement, the operation involved a strategic reorganization of the cordon amidst intermittent gunfire on the night of March 31, 2026. Following this, the army executed a planned counter-offensive, effectively eliminating one terrorist. The operation is still ongoing.
Based on specific intelligence, the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, initiated a joint search operation in the General Arhama area of Ganderbal on Tuesday evening. During the search, alert soldiers observed suspicious activities. When challenged, the terrorists opened fire, prompting a swift response from Indian troops. The encounter lasted throughout the night, resulting in the death of one terrorist.
Sources indicate that the army has sealed all escape routes for the terrorists. It is believed that two terrorists were hiding in the village. Ganderbal district in northern Kashmir has previously been considered free of terrorist presence, making this encounter a significant concern for security forces.
On October 20, 2024, terrorists had attacked a labor camp near the Sonamarg Z-Morah tunnel construction site in Ganderbal, resulting in the deaths of six non-local workers and one local doctor, with several others injured. This attack specifically targeted employees working on the crucial Z-Morah tunnel project.
Similarly, on April 22, 2025, terrorists killed 25 civilians, including 24 tourists and one local pony owner, in the meadows of Baisaran in Pahalgam. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and police later released images of suspects based on CCTV footage.
