India to Host Asian Rifle and Pistol Championship in 2027

New Delhi, February 3: The Asian Shooting Confederation has announced that India will host the Asian Rifle and Pistol Championship in 2027. This prestigious event will take place from December 1 to 10 at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range. It will provide eight quota spots for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

The National Rifle Association of India will oversee the championship. The significance of this event is heightened by the opportunity it presents for Asian athletes to secure their places for the upcoming Olympics.

India has already secured a maximum of 16 quota spots for the Paris 2024 Olympics through qualifying competitions, with eight spots each in rifle and pistol events. A record 21 Indian shooters will participate in Paris, a notable increase from the 15 who competed in Tokyo. Indian marksmen won three bronze medals at the Tokyo Olympics.

Currently, India is optimistic about its performance on home soil, as it prepares to host the Asian Shooting Championship (Rifle/Pistol) from February 2 to 14. The host country has fielded the largest team of 118 athletes, while Kazakhstan follows with 35 athletes. Strong teams from Korea, Iran, and Japan are also expected to compete, along with shooters from Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, and Hong Kong.

The championship will feature athletes from 20 countries, with a total of 564 events scheduled throughout the competition.
