Richard Ngarava Appointed Captain of Zimbabwe Test Team for Bangladesh Match

New Delhi, June 23: Fast bowler Richard Ngarava has been appointed as the captain of the Zimbabwe Test cricket team for their upcoming match against Bangladesh. Ngarava will lead the team in the sole Test match starting on June 28 at Harare Sports Club.

Zimbabwe Cricket announced a 15-member squad for the Test match on Tuesday. The team includes players such as Brian Bennett, Tanaka Chivanga, Blessing Muzarabani, Brendan Taylor, and Graeme Cremer.

Richard Ngarava made his Test debut in May 2021. The 28-year-old bowler has played 11 Test matches, taking 25 wickets at an average of 38.56. Additionally, he has claimed 70 wickets in 55 One Day Internationals and 114 wickets in 93 T20 matches.

Notably, Sikandar Raza will not be part of the Zimbabwe team against Bangladesh, as he has been allowed to continue his commitments with Worcestershire in the T20 Blast.

Zimbabwe last played a Test match in October 2025, where they defeated Afghanistan by an innings and 73 runs. In that match, Ngarava took 5 wickets for 37 runs in 13 overs during Afghanistan’s second innings.

The squad selected for the Test against Bangladesh includes five players who were not part of the team that faced Afghanistan. Innocent Kaia, Graeme Cremer, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wesley Madhevere, and Newman Nyamhuri have been recalled due to their impressive performances in domestic and representative cricket.

To date, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe have played a total of 20 Test matches, with Bangladesh winning 9, Zimbabwe winning 8, and 3 matches ending in a draw.

Zimbabwe’s Test team for the match includes: Richard Ngarava (captain), Brian Bennett, Tanaka Chivanga, Graeme Cremer, Ben Curran, Craig Ervine, Brad Evans, Innocent Kaia, Roy Kaia, Wesley Madhevere, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Blessing Muzarabani, Newman Nyamhuri, Brendan Taylor, and Tafadzwa Sigauke.
