India Opts to Bowl First in 2nd T20 vs New Zealand, Axar and Bumrah Out

Raipur: India won the toss and chose to bowl first in the second T20 match against New Zealand at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium on Friday. The Indian team made two changes to their playing XI, while New Zealand brought in three new players.

Axar Patel is sidelined due to injury, and Jasprit Bumrah has been rested. Harshit Rana and Kuldeep Yadav have been included in the Indian XI in their place. For New Zealand, Tim Seifert, Matt Henry, and Jack Faulkes replaced Robinson, Jamieson, and Clarke respectively.

After winning the toss, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav said, “We will bowl first. There is some dew already, and we haven’t chased runs recently, so we want to chase this time. We aim to improve every game and in all departments. There are two changes in our team—Axar got injured in the last match, and Bumrah has been rested.”

On the other hand, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner stated, “We also would have bowled first if we had won the toss. Playing against a strong team in their conditions always teaches you something. We have made three changes—Seifert comes in for Robinson, Jack Faulkes replaces Clarke, and Matt Henry is also in the team.”

India lost the first match of the series by 48 runs and will look to level the series with a win in this game. The remaining three T20 matches are scheduled for January 25 in Guwahati, January 28 in Visakhapatnam, and January 31 in Thiruvananthapuram. India had earlier lost the ODI series 1-2 to New Zealand.

Since 2007, India and New Zealand men’s teams have faced each other in 26 T20 matches. India has won 13 games, New Zealand 10, while three matches ended in a tie, with New Zealand winning two of those in the super over.
