
Chennai, April 3: In the seventh match of IPL 2026, Punjab Kings (PBKS) triumphed over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by five wickets on Friday. Captain Shreyas Iyer played a stellar innings, scoring a half-century, while Priyansh Arya contributed a fiery 39 runs. This marks Punjab’s second consecutive win this season.
Chasing a target of 210 runs set by CSK, Punjab Kings achieved the goal with five wickets in hand, reaching the target in just 18.4 overs. The innings started strong, with Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh putting together an impressive 61 runs for the first wicket in 4.2 overs. Priyansh scored 39 runs off just 11 balls, boasting a strike rate of 354, including three fours and four sixes. Prabhsimran added 43 runs from 34 balls, while Cooper Connolly made 36 runs off 22 balls with six fours. However, Nehal Wadhera disappointed with a mere 10 runs before being dismissed by Matt Henry.
Captain Shreyas Iyer anchored the innings, scoring his first half-century of the season with 50 runs off 29 balls, including four fours and three sixes. After Iyer’s dismissal, Shashank Singh and Marcus Stoinis ensured no further setbacks for Punjab, with Shashank scoring 14 runs off six balls and Stoinis remaining unbeaten on nine runs from three balls, leading the team to victory. In the bowling department, CSK’s Matt Henry and Anshul Kamboj each took two wickets.
Earlier, CSK, batting first after losing the toss, managed to score 209 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs. Sanju Samson had a disappointing outing, scoring only seven runs. However, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ayush Mhatre formed a solid partnership, adding 96 runs for the second wicket. Ruturaj scored 28 runs off 22 balls, while Ayush played a brilliant innings, scoring 73 runs from 43 balls. Karthik Sharma failed to impress again, managing just one run.
Sarfaraz Khan showcased his explosive batting, scoring 32 runs off just 12 balls. In the final overs, Shivam Dube contributed an unbeaten 45 runs from 27 balls, hitting five fours and one six. For Punjab Kings, Vijaykumar Vaishak was the standout bowler, taking two wickets. This marks CSK’s second consecutive loss in IPL 2026.
