India Dominates List of Hottest Cities as Hospitals in Uttar Pradesh Go on High Alert

New Delhi, May 22: A significant portion of India is currently grappling with extreme heat. The situation has escalated to the point where the majority of cities listed among the world’s top 50 or 100 hottest locations are in India. In response, doctors are advising citizens to avoid going outside during peak sunlight hours. Many states have either declared school closures or issued directives for necessary arrangements due to the severe heat.

According to data from AQI.in, as of 10 PM, 35 out of the 50 hottest places globally are Indian cities. This list includes Raipur, Durg, Bhilai, Chandrapur, Nagpur, Banda, Akola, Burhanpur, Amaravati, Noida, Sonipat, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram, among others.

Uttar Pradesh‘s Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak has urged citizens to venture outside only when absolutely necessary during the day. He also confirmed that hospitals are on high alert, with beds secured and medication availability ensured.

Prayagraj is also among the hottest cities. While residents are suffering from the heat, there has been a rise in dog attack incidents. It is believed that the extreme temperatures are causing distressed dogs to target people. The chief superintendent of Motilal Nehru District Hospital stated that incidents of dog bites have increased during this period.

The veterinary and animal welfare officer mentioned that measures are being taken to provide relief to dogs suffering from the heat. He urged the public to arrange for water and food for animals whenever possible, explaining that when they lack food and water, they tend to become aggressive.

Banda, another city in Uttar Pradesh, is also among the hottest locations. Cooling centers and water stations have been set up to help residents cope with the heat.

In Rajasthan’s Sikar, a local woman reported that very few women are seen on the streets during the day. Only those with urgent work are venturing outside. The administration has issued alerts, noting that while people do go out in the morning and evening, they lack the courage to step out during the afternoon.

Residents of Garhwa district in Jharkhand are also struggling. The intense heat has disrupted electricity supply, and temperatures are expected to rise further, prompting advisories for people to remain vigilant.

The Indian Meteorological Department has already indicated that this situation may persist for several more days, with no expected drop in temperatures over the next week. However, relief may come soon for hilly areas.
