Hyderabad, July 23: K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), the executive president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has written to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, urging the Congress government to clarify its official stance on the revival of the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) plant in Adilabad.
KTR emphasized that this issue is not just about an industry; it affects the livelihoods of thousands of families, the industrial future of Adilabad, and the economic development of the state. In his letter, he mentioned that a BRS delegation recently met with representatives of the CCI Sadhana Committee and the Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, in New Delhi on July 15. During this meeting, they submitted a memorandum requesting the reopening of the Adilabad CCI plant and highlighted the potential employment and economic benefits it would bring to the region.
He claimed that the central minister made it clear that the revival of the Adilabad CCI plant is possible if the Telangana government agrees to contribute ₹250 crore. However, the minister noted that no formal proposal has been sent by the state government, nor has there been any indication of willingness to provide necessary incentives or support. This lack of action has stalled the process.
KTR accused the Congress-led state government of failing to clarify its official position on this matter despite the central government’s positive outlook. The delays over the past two and a half years reflect the Congress government’s indifference. He pointed out that the state government has neither coordinated with the center nor presented an independent plan to revive the plant.
He reminded Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of the promise made during the assembly elections to restart the CCI plant. KTR stated that this commitment was reiterated after he took office, yet no concrete steps have been taken in that direction. He alleged that the state government has not engaged in necessary official discussions with the center or sent required proposals.
Recalling the efforts of the previous BRS government, KTR noted that former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had personally written to the Prime Minister requesting the revival of the plant. He also mentioned that during his tenure as the industry minister, he had written to the then Union Minister of Heavy Industries, Anant Geete, advocating for the reopening of the Adilabad CCI unit.
KTR asserted that if the central government does not wish to operate the plant, the state government is prepared to manage it independently. He accused the previous central government of stalling the project for political reasons, but now the current central government has made it clear that it is waiting for a response from the Telangana government. Therefore, the state government can no longer remain silent on this issue.
In his letter, KTR posed six critical questions to the Chief Minister. He inquired about the state government’s official stance on the revival of the Adilabad CCI plant, the proposals sent to the central government so far, the state’s readiness to contribute ₹250 crore, the potential incentives under TS-iPASS, participation in a central-state joint venture, and whether the state has an alternative plan to revive the plant if the central government does not proceed.
