New Delhi, March 5: India’s Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, met with Finland’s counterpart, Sari Multala, in the national capital on Thursday. During this meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for environmental cooperation between India and Finland was renewed.
Minister Yadav expressed his satisfaction on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “I am pleased to announce that India has renewed the MoU signed in 2020. This will enhance cooperation between our countries through knowledge and technology sharing in pollution prevention and control, waste management, climate change, and forest and natural resource management.”
The renewed MoU will continue to provide a structured framework for collaboration on air and water pollution prevention and control (including contaminated soil treatment), waste management (hazardous waste, energy from waste, and recycling), circular economy practices, and low-carbon solutions in natural resource and forest utilization. It will also focus on climate change mitigation and adaptation, environmental and forest monitoring (including data management), conservation and sustainable use of marine and coastal resources, and integrated water resource management.
Both parties discussed opportunities for collaboration on the circular economy through focused discussions and joint initiatives.
Sari Multala is part of a ministerial delegation accompanying Finnish President Alexander Stubb on his current visit to India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with President Stubb at Hyderabad House on Thursday. Both leaders agreed to enhance cooperation in areas such as digitization, sustainability, clean energy, quantum computing, and semiconductors, as well as deepen partnerships in defense and space sectors.
Following the talks, Prime Minister Modi addressed a joint press statement, announcing that India and Finland have decided to develop their bilateral relations into a strategic partnership focused on digitization and sustainability, which will accelerate collaboration in high-tech sectors.
He also noted that a reliable partnership between democratic nations like India and Finland will help ensure a dependable technological ecosystem and robust global supply chains.
