The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has uncovered an illegal drug manufacturing unit in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, involved in the production of mephadrone (MD). Advanced laboratory equipment used for synthetic drug production was seized during the operation, which aimed to prepare around 200 kilograms of MD for distribution in the illicit drug market.
The raid was conducted on Thursday under the codename Operation Laboratory in coordination with the Jodhpur Rural Police. Three main suspects connected to the case are currently absconding, and efforts to apprehend them are ongoing.
During the search, NCB officials confiscated several laboratory and industrial tools used for synthetic drug manufacture, including borosilicate jars, borosilicate glass tubes, electric induction motors, and industrial electromagnetic stirrers among other equipment.
Earlier, on January 25, the NCB had seized 1.089 kilograms of mephadrone in Jodhpur. Acting on intelligence, the team stopped two motorcycle riders carrying a black bag containing narcotics, resulting in the arrest of two accused individuals.
Further investigation revealed that one of the three primary suspects had established three clandestine mephadrone labs in Bengaluru. The MD consignment seized in Jodhpur had been transported from these hidden labs.
Following this lead, NCB and Jodhpur Rural Police conducted a raid at a farmhouse located on Dandor Road in Soyla, recovering illegal lab equipment. The search for the three fugitives is intensifying.
In a related operation, the NCB also busted an interstate drug trafficking network and a covert drug manufacturing lab in Mysuru, Karnataka. Officials reported the seizure of drugs valued at approximately Rs 10 crore, Rs 25.6 lakh in cash, a Toyota Fortuner vehicle, and over 500 kilograms of chemicals.
The illegal lab situated in the Hebbal Industrial Area of Mysuru has been sealed for forensic examination. Based on intelligence inputs, on January 28, a Toyota Fortuner bearing Karnataka registration was stopped in Palsana, Surat district, Gujarat. The vehicle was found carrying about 35 kilograms of mephadrone.
