Ranchi, February 22: In a significant incident in the Saranda forest of West Singhbhum district, two personnel from the CRPF’s 209 Cobra Battalion were injured due to an IED blast. The explosion occurred on Saturday near Chhota Nagara police station while a joint team of district police and CRPF was conducting a search operation against CPI (Maoist) insurgents.

The two soldiers were injured after stepping on an IED that had been planted earlier. One of the injured is reported to be in critical condition. They were promptly evacuated from the forest, given first aid, and airlifted to Ranchi for advanced treatment.

West Singhbhum’s Superintendent of Police, Amit Renu, confirmed the incident, stating that the explosion took place during an anti-naxal operation. Following the blast, security forces heightened their vigilance in the area and intensified the search operations. Security agencies noted that recent campaigns have yielded several successes, prompting desperate Maoists to lay IEDs in various locations.

The district administration has urged locals to avoid unnecessary entry into the forest and to report any suspicious objects or activities to the police immediately. Security forces have assured that the campaign against the Maoists will continue, and every possible measure will be taken to restore peace in the region.

In a related development, security forces achieved a significant breakthrough in Bijapur, thwarting a Maoist plot. The 214th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force conducted a search and area domination operation in the Farsegard area, leading to the recovery of 16 beer bottle IEDs and a 5-kilogram pressure cooker IED.

The BDD team safely disposed of all recovered IEDs on-site, adhering to established safety protocols. Further searches uncovered a cache of Maoist materials hidden in a plastic drum underground, including ropes, flexible wires, a multimeter, iron soldering rods, wire cutters, M-seal, pencil batteries, DC motors, Maoist uniforms, magazine pouches, medicines, and Maoist literature.

This effective action by security forces has disrupted a major Maoist conspiracy. Officials confirmed that the anti-naxal campaign will persist, with ongoing efforts to strengthen security in the area.
