Dhaka, June 4: A two-member delegation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) has arrived in Bangladesh to discuss matters with stakeholders of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The BCB elections are scheduled for June 7.
The delegation includes Dr. Mohammad A.S. Moosajee, Director of Cricket South Africa (CSA), and Tavengwa Mukuhlani from Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC). They arrived in Dhaka on Monday and met with various representatives from the cricketing community to review recent developments concerning the BCB.
The ICC stated on Thursday, “The ICC wants to clarify that this delegation will submit its findings and comments to the ICC Board in due course. The delegation will not make any comments to the media regarding this matter. Therefore, any reports, comments, or claims in the media about this visit are mere speculation and do not reflect the official stance of the ICC.”
This visit comes at a crucial juncture for Bangladesh cricket. Recently, there have been changes in the board’s leadership, and preparations for the upcoming elections are underway. Currently, the BCB is being overseen by an 11-member ad hoc committee led by former national team captain Tamim Iqbal. The National Sports Council (NSC) dissolved the previous board, led by Aminul Islam, on April 7, leading to the formation of this committee.
The NSC took this action based on a report from an investigative committee that pointed to significant irregularities in the previous board elections. Tamim had previously led a request for an investigation, claiming that 50 of the 76 clubs in the capital supported this demand.
This governing body of sports associations has made it clear that its final decision regarding the future of the BCB will be based on the investigative committee’s report. The ICC delegation’s visit is seen as part of efforts to ensure transparency and credibility in the electoral process.
It is noteworthy that during Aminul’s tenure, Bangladesh withdrew from the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup. This decision came after Bangladesh refused to play league stage matches in India. The move was made when fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was removed from his IPL 2026 contract with Kolkata Knight Riders.
