Selangor, July 28: In the first round of the prestigious Malaysia Ladies Amateur Open, Chandigarh’s Guntas Kaur Sandhu achieved an impressive score of one-over 73, tying for second place with three other players.
The 15-year-old is part of a two-member Indian team sent by the Indian Golf Union (IGU), recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India.
Panchkula’s Seerat Khang finished the day in sixth place with a score of two-over 74 at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club, which has a par of 72. Malaysia’s Fong Ji Yu leads the first round with a score of one-under 71. In the team championship, India is currently in third place with a total score of three-over 147.
This event features a total of 54 golfers from 11 countries, including China, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, South Korea, the Philippines, and Singapore. Guntas made birdies on the 9th, 11th, and 16th holes, while facing bogeys on the 10th, 15th, 17th, and 18th holes.
Seerat Khang currently holds the top position in the IGU Ladies Order of Merit, with Guntas Kaur Sandhu in second place.
The 19-year-old Seerat has had an outstanding 2025-26 season, participating in 20 tournaments and finishing in the top 10 twelve times, including a victory at last year’s Greens to Glory Junior Masters Championship.
Meanwhile, Guntas has also excelled in the IGU Amateur Circuit, competing in 20 tournaments and securing top 10 finishes 13 times, with four victories. She won the IGU Eastern India Ladies, IGU Southern India Ladies, IGU Maharashtra Ladies, and IGU West Bengal Ladies tournaments during the 2025-26 season.
This is the 40th edition of the tournament, held at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club. Approximately 40 amateur golfers from 20 countries are participating in this three-round event. Individual winners will be determined after 54 holes, while the champion team will be decided based on the combined score of both golfers after 36 holes.
