Lucknow, July 28: Indian cricket team fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL, is currently representing the Lucknow Falcons in the Uttar Pradesh T20 League. He has commended the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association’s (UPCA) ‘Speed Hunt’ initiative aimed at discovering young fast bowling talents.
Bhuvneshwar stated that ‘Speed Hunt’ has become an essential platform for identifying fast bowling talent. He remarked, “The UPT20 League has been very successful over the past three seasons. I am confident it will continue to improve. One of the biggest positives has been the UPCA Speed Hunt, which has brought forth young fast bowling talents from Uttar Pradesh. It is a proud moment to see players like Shubham Gautam receiving significant contracts. This shows that if you perform, opportunities will arise.”
He added, “My only hope for the players is to make the most of every opportunity and give their best. The UPCA is making every possible effort to provide the right platform. Once players step onto the field, their performance depends on them.”
The veteran bowler expressed his satisfaction in seeing young cricketers achieve financial security through the league. Most have worked hard to reach this level. With success comes expectations. I hope they enjoy this moment, remain pressure-free, and continue to focus on their cricket.”
Kumar emphasized that the league has become a significant source of inspiration for young cricketers. “Previously, opportunities were scarce, but now hundreds of players get a chance to showcase their talent. We have already seen players transition directly from the UPT20 League to the IPL. This, in itself, is the biggest motivation for every young player.”
The fourth edition of the league will take place in Lucknow and Kanpur. Bhuvneshwar welcomed this move, stating it would help the tournament reach more fans across the state. “Hosting the league in two cities is a great step. Uttar Pradesh is a large state, and holding matches in different locations helps fans connect with their teams. This will further enhance the tournament’s popularity.”
The tournament’s opening ceremony and the first phase will be held at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, followed by the second phase at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. The playoffs and finals will also take place in Kanpur.
