Humayun Kabir Claims Assassination Attempt Amid Election Tensions in Murshidabad

Murshidabad, April 23: Humayun Kabir, the president of the Aam Janata Udyog Party (AJUP), spoke to a news agency about an assassination attempt on him, stating, “I was targeted for my life. I survived due to central security.”

Kabir expressed confidence that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) would be eliminated from Murshidabad following the elections. He dismissed accusations against him, questioning, “Why would I throw bombs when I have so many supporters?” He also commented on the Babri Masjid, indicating that it serves as a message to Mamata Banerjee that no one can prevent its construction.

Making bold predictions, Kabir claimed that the election results would show TMC in a significantly weakened position, potentially finishing third. He aimed to win over 100 seats but alleged that Abhishek Banerjee and Pratik Jain had bought off 27 of his candidates. He asserted that 115 candidates from his party were contesting in this phase, with AJUP expected to secure 80-85 seats.

In response to reports of violence and police action during voting in Murshidabad, Samajwadi Party leader ST Hasan remarked that protests against Kabir were evident. He stated, “Everyone in India knows he is a BJP agent.” A viral video of Kabir was mentioned, suggesting he is attempting to divide the Muslim community.

Hasan emphasized the need for peace, stating that people should not resort to violence. He criticized the police for their handling of the situation, claiming they only targeted TMC supporters and did not address the actions of Kabir’s supporters.
