China Sets New Record with Delivery of Two Ultra-Large Crude Oil Tankers in One Day

Beijing, June 6: China has officially launched two ultra-large crude oil tankers, each with a deadweight capacity of 306,000 tons, after their naming and delivery in the northeastern province of Liaoning. This remarkable achievement marks a new record in the global shipbuilding industry for delivering two massive tankers in a single day.

The tankers have been named ‘Averos’ and ‘Akelos.’ Both vessels belong to the same category and were independently designed and developed by the Dalian-based Henglai Heavy Industry. Each ship measures 332.8 meters in length, 60 meters in width, and 30 meters in height, with a maximum speed of 14.5 knots. They are considered state-of-the-art in terms of performance and environmental protection capabilities.

Wang Lei, Deputy General Manager of Henglai Shipbuilding, highlighted key features of these vessels, including high speed, low fuel consumption, increased cargo capacity, and heavy load-bearing capability. He noted that these next-generation ships are equipped with advanced desulfurization and denitrification technologies, along with the latest energy-saving and environmentally friendly equipment. They fully comply with international green environmental standards.

During the shipbuilding process, efficient use of large sections, massive blocks, and large-scale assembly techniques enabled the delivery of both vessels on the same day. Each ship was completed at least three months ahead of schedule.
