New Delhi, June 6: A new controversy has emerged surrounding a transfer order issued by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the BJP-led MCD of transferring a junior engineer (JE) who passed away seven months ago, along with including the name of another suspended JE in the transfer list. This issue has raised serious questions about the functioning of the MCD, as highlighted by the Leader of Opposition, Ankush Narang.
Narang stated that this incident reveals the true state of the administrative system under the BJP-led MCD. He questioned whether the corporation is unaware of the current status of its employees. He demanded a fair investigation into the matter and strict action against the officials responsible for including the names of deceased and suspended employees in the transfer list.
According to AAP leaders, a letter issued by the engineering department of the MCD on June 5 mentioned the transfer of two officials, including JE Apurva Bhatnagar, who had passed away nearly seven months prior.
Additionally, JE Atul Kumar Suman, who has been suspended for the past nine months, was also listed for transfer. Narang noted that it was surprising to see the signature of the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Engineering) on this order. He alleged that issuing such orders without verification is a serious example of administrative negligence.
He emphasized that transferring deceased, suspended, and inactive employees clearly indicates significant flaws in departmental records and monitoring systems. Narang also claimed that as soon as the AAP made this issue public, the MCD administration promptly revoked the order and canceled the transfer list.
Targeting the BJP, he pointed out ongoing complaints about incorrect seniority lists, controversial promotions, and alleged transfers for money within the corporation. He called for the implementation of a digital verification system in the MCD to prevent such incidents in the future, allowing real-time checks on employees’ service status. Narang also demanded accountability from the Mayor and senior officials in the engineering department regarding this matter.
