Human Rights Organization Raises Concerns Over Arrests in Balochistan

Quetta, March 20: The Balochistan chapter of the Baloch National Movement (BNM) has expressed serious concerns regarding the alleged unjust arrests of leaders and widespread repression in Pakistan’s Balochistan province.

The organization held a seminar in the Surab district of Balochistan, highlighting the issues faced by the local population and the oppressive conditions they endure. This event was part of a month-long awareness campaign by the BNM.

According to the BNM, the Pakistani administration is misusing legal provisions to suppress dissenting voices. The seminar prominently addressed the “unjust detention” of key organizers, including Mehrang Baloch.

The organization noted that many families in Balochistan are still waiting for the return of their missing relatives, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty and fear among the people.

The BNM also alleged that its leaders have been held in custody for over a year, deprived of their constitutional right to a fair trial. They claimed that there is an almost complete ban on independent political activities in the province.

Meanwhile, the organization conducted a public awareness campaign in the Kili Kambarani and Saryab areas of Quetta, distributing flyers to inform residents about the one-year anniversary of their leaders’ arrests. The campaign also highlighted the alleged biased behavior of Pakistani courts and the atrocities faced by the Baloch community.

The organization urged the people of Balochistan to remain united, organized, and steadfast during the current crisis, advocating for their rights through peaceful means.

It is noteworthy that security forces have long faced accusations of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan.
