Amaravati, March 21: Y.S. Vijayalakshmi (Vijayamma), the wife of the late former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has made significant statements regarding a family property dispute. She claims that her son, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, has treated his sister, Y.S. Sharmila, and her children unjustly during the division of family assets.
On Friday, Vijayamma issued a notarized clarification, stating that there has been no formal division of the family’s properties to date. She expressed hope that Jagan would eventually do justice for his sister and her children.
This dispute is currently being addressed in the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). Vijayamma dismissed claims made by the YSR Congress Party regarding the division of properties, labeling them as “misleading” and “far from the truth.”
She clarified that until 2009, all family assets were considered joint family property, and no division occurred even after Rajasekhara Reddy’s passing.
According to Vijayamma, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the property division was only prepared as a framework for the future, and it was neither registered nor legally enforceable.
She stated that Rajasekhara Reddy wished for the properties to be divided equally among his grandchildren. She also noted that the properties listed in the MoU under Sharmila’s name are indeed under her control, although they are less than her rightful share.
Vijayamma highlighted that properties such as Saraswati Cement and land in Yelahanka belong to Sharmila. She clarified that the amount given to Sharmila was merely a dividend, not a share in the property.
In response, YSR Congress Party spokesperson Rachamalla Shivaprasad Reddy termed Vijayamma’s statements as “inappropriate” and “sad.” He questioned why she was making such remarks instead of expressing concern for her son.
The spokesperson also claimed that the property division had already occurred before Rajasekhara Reddy’s death in 2009. He stated that Jagan had generously given his sister more than his share and had signed an MoU after becoming Chief Minister in 2019, which was later retracted due to certain circumstances and legal reasons.
He emphasized that such family disputes should be resolved privately or through the courts rather than being aired publicly.
