Under the supervision of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Udaipur Region, the Mine Safety Association Udaipur organised the Trade Test and First-Aid Competition as part of the 49th Mine Safety Week. The event was hosted by Hindustan Zinc Limited at Zawar Mines.
Teams from both organised and unorganised sectors, representing open-cast and underground mines, participated in various first-aid activities and trade competitions. A poster, slogan and essay writing competition was also conducted.
The event was attended by Tom Mathew, Director of Mines Safety; Vishal Goyal, Deputy Director of Mines Safety; Anshul Kumar Khandelwal, IBU CEO, Zawar Mines; and Jaswant Singh, Senior Vice President of Zawar Mines Mazdoor Sangh, as chief guests. Senior officials from various mines and mining institutions were also present.
Deputy Director Vishal Goyal explained the structure of the trade test and first-aid events, while Anshul Kumar Khandelwal guided participants as per this year’s theme — “Breathe Safe, Beat the Heat, Stay Protected from Silicosis and Heat Stroke.” After the oath ceremony, Director Tom Mathew flagged off the competition and inspected the first-aid teams.
A total of 330 participants competed in the trade test — 12 from open-cast mines, 16 from underground mines and 6 from ore beneficiation plants. Additionally, 15 first-aid teams took part in the safety competition.
Deputy Director Vishal Goyal announced 191 trade test winners, who will be honoured at the valedictory ceremony of Mine Safety Week in December. Winners of the poster, slogan and essay contests were also awarded.
