Chennai, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecasted heavy rainfall for Saturday in 11 districts of Tamil Nadu, including Nilgiris and Coimbatore.
This weather pattern is attributed to a trough, a low-pressure area extending from Maharashtra to the southeast Arabian Sea. As a result, widespread rainfall is anticipated across various parts of Tamil Nadu, with some districts likely to experience thunderstorms and strong winds.
Heavy rainfall is expected in Nilgiris and Coimbatore until September 22. Residents in low-lying and vulnerable areas have been advised to remain vigilant, as intense rain may lead to flooding and disrupt transportation.
On Saturday, districts such as Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Ranipet, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Tirupattur, Vellore, Kallakurichi, and Madurai may also see heavy rain accompanied by strong winds.
Moderate rainfall is predicted in districts adjacent to the Western Ghats and several other regions of the state. Chennai and nearby areas like Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu can expect intermittent rain throughout the day.
Similar weather conditions are anticipated in Kuddalore, Salem, Erode, Namakkal, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Ramanathapuram, and Thoothukudi.
The intensity of rainfall may vary across different areas, with some locations experiencing brief but heavy downpours. The meteorological department has cautioned that heavy rainfall could return on Sunday in several districts.
Alerts for heavy rain have been issued for Dindigul, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tiruchirappalli, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Madurai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai, Tirupattur, and Vellore.
Cloudy skies are expected in many parts of the state, with thunderstorms likely in the afternoon and evening. Strong winds may also accompany rainfall in the interior and western districts.
Drivers are advised to exercise caution during heavy rain due to reduced visibility and the risk of water accumulation on roads. Farmers have been urged to take necessary precautions to protect harvested crops and agricultural products left outdoors.
District administrations are expected to monitor rainfall levels and be prepared to respond to any local flooding or weather-related emergencies. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official weather updates and avoid seeking shelter under trees during storms.
