Mumbai, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut has expressed strong criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the judicial custody of Congress candidate Milan Pradhan in the Nandigram by-election. Raut’s remarks came after Pradhan’s arrest on September 19, which he described as an act of fear by the BJP.
Raut questioned the integrity of the arrest, stating, “What does the BJP say? It doesn’t matter. The way they have arrested our candidate from Nandigram raises questions about justice. You are scared, aren’t you? You are afraid in Nandigram. That is why you arrested our candidate in a case that is 6-10 years old.”
In a related incident, police also detained independent candidate Shafiul Islam from the Reginagar assembly constituency for an old case on the same day.
Additionally, Raut targeted the central government over the issuance of notices to 3.1 million voters during the Special Investigation Report (SIR) in Delhi, which included the name of Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal and his family. He remarked, “When major parties have their election symbols stolen, and entire parties go missing, it is no surprise if someone’s name disappears from the voter list. This is bound to happen. Kejriwal’s name is missing. Thousands, millions, and even crores of people’s names go missing across Maharashtra and the country. This government can do anything. They want to show that only those they want will vote, while those they do not want will not.”
Raut accused the government of manipulating the voter list to allow only select individuals to vote. He emphasized that if election symbols and parties can be stolen, the disappearance of names from the voter list is not unexpected.
