Heavy Rain Causes Temporary Flooding at Jewar Airport Parking Area

Greater Noida, August 13: Heavy rainfall led to flooding in the parking area of Noida International Airport, affecting the route connecting the terminal. The sudden downpour caused water to enter the underpass leading to the parking area. Upon receiving reports of the flooding, airport teams quickly arrived on-site to begin water removal operations.

According to airport management, the water was cleared within approximately 30 minutes, restoring normalcy to the route. To ensure smooth passenger movement, traffic was temporarily diverted to alternative routes. During this time, passengers were provided with direct pickup services at the terminal curb area to avoid any major inconvenience.

The management clarified that the flooding incident did not impact air services, and no flights were delayed or canceled. A statement from Noida International Airport noted that the heavy rain, which occurred over a short period, caused water to enter the path between the terminal and the parking area. The airport teams responded promptly to remove the water. Traffic was rerouted to maintain passenger convenience and operational efficiency.

Management indicated that the overall impact on airport operations was minimal. They also mentioned that a detailed review of the incident is underway. The team is investigating how water entered the route during the heavy rain and what improvements are needed for the drainage system. Necessary corrective measures will be implemented to prevent similar situations in the future during heavy rainfall.

It is noteworthy that Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas have been experiencing continuous rainfall in recent days. This has resulted in flooding on roads, underpasses, and low-lying areas. Therefore, special vigilance regarding drainage systems at significant transport hubs like Jewar Airport is deemed essential. However, the airport management acted swiftly to remove the water and ensured alternative arrangements for passengers.

According to management, flight operations remained normal, and passengers did not face significant disruptions while traveling to and from the airport. The airport administration also indicated that after the investigation, necessary technical and engineering improvements could be made. This will help prevent flooding on terminal, parking, and connecting routes during heavy rain, ensuring uninterrupted passenger movement.
