Chennai, June 6: The southwest monsoon is advancing, bringing the likelihood of heavy rainfall and strong winds across Tamil Nadu until June 9. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai predicts that as the southwest monsoon progresses in southern India, many areas in Tamil Nadu will experience heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms.
According to the weather department, a cyclonic circulation exists at an altitude of 3.1 to 4.5 kilometers above sea level over coastal Karnataka and surrounding regions. The southwest monsoon has moved into the remaining parts of the southwest and southeast Arabian Sea, portions of the west-central and east-central Arabian Sea, as well as areas in Lakshadweep, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and large sections of the Bay of Bengal.
As a result, light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are expected in some areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Saturday. In the hilly regions of Coimbatore district and in Nilgiris, Theni, and Dindigul districts, heavy rain along with strong winds and thunderstorms is anticipated.
Similar weather conditions are likely in the districts of Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruppur, Madurai, and Virudhunagar, where heavy rain and strong winds are expected in certain areas.
