
Hyderabad, May 17: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for several regions in Telangana over the next seven days.
According to the Hyderabad weather center, maximum temperatures in the state could rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the next three days. The IMD anticipates that between May 19 and May 24, temperatures in some districts may surpass 45 degrees Celsius.
On May 18, severe heat conditions are likely in areas of Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagityal, and Rajanna Sircilla districts, with maximum temperatures expected to exceed 45 degrees Celsius.
Heatwave-like conditions persisted in many parts of Telangana on Sunday. The Telangana Development Planning Society reported the highest temperature of 45.7 degrees Celsius in the Bhimgal mandal of Nizamabad district, with 45.5 degrees Celsius recorded in the Mosra mandal of the same district.
Several mandals in Nirmal district also experienced the heat’s impact, with maximum temperatures reaching 45.3 degrees Celsius in Dasturabad and 45.1 degrees Celsius in Tanur. In Kamareddy district, Kolloor in the Banswada mandal recorded a maximum temperature of 45.2 degrees Celsius.
Out of the 33 districts in the state, 16 recorded maximum temperatures of 42 degrees Celsius or higher, with the state’s average maximum temperature at 40.8 degrees Celsius. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area recorded an average maximum temperature of 40.4 degrees Celsius, with the highest temperature of 42.3 degrees Celsius noted in the Goshamahal circle.
In light of the IMD’s warning, Dr. B. Ravinder Nayak, Director of the Department of Public Health and Family Welfare, has issued an advisory for citizens. This includes guidelines on what to do and what to avoid during a heatwave.
As a precautionary measure, the government has arranged special beds, IV fluids, and essential medications at all government health centers. Additionally, packets of ORS have been made available to ANMs, ASHAs, and Anganwadi workers to address any emergencies.
