Karnal, July 18: In a significant move to eradicate drug abuse in Haryana, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini convened a special workshop and review meeting with approximately 600 Station House Officers (SHOs) at the Haryana Police Academy in Karnal on Saturday.
The meeting was attended by the Director General of Police (DGP) of Haryana and other senior officials from the police department. During the session, the Chief Minister instructed police officers to take strict action against drug trafficking and to actively engage at the community level to keep youth away from drugs.
Saini emphasized that the workshop, part of the ‘Haryana Uday’ campaign, aims not only to crack down on criminals but also to prevent youth from falling into the trap of addiction. He urged all SHOs to identify individuals involved in drug trafficking or sales within their jurisdictions and ensure stringent legal action against them.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of police officers regularly visiting schools, colleges, and universities to engage with students. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and to connect students struggling with addiction to rehabilitation programs in a timely manner. He noted that the state government is actively working to increase the number of de-addiction centers and enhance their facilities.
Saini mentioned that the government has previously conducted marathons, cyclothons, and awareness campaigns in areas like Sirsa, Ellenabad, and Dabwali to inspire youth towards sports and positive activities. He referenced Prime Minister Modi’s call to make India a global sports hub and to prepare youth for better performances on international platforms like the Olympics. The Chief Minister stressed the urgent need to engage more youth in sports.
Praising the Haryana Police for their ongoing actions against gangsters, Saini noted their remarkable success in repatriating criminals hiding abroad to face justice in India. He encouraged police to adopt a friendly approach with youth to help them steer clear of crime and substance abuse.
The Chief Minister also appealed to parents to keep a close watch on their children’s activities and peer groups. He stated that a collaborative effort among families, communities, and the police is essential to make Haryana a drug-free and safe state.
