Concerns Raised Over Sonam Wangchuks Health by His Wife Amid Hospital Report Discrepancies

New Delhi, July 18: Social activist Sonam Wangchuk‘s health has raised alarms, as his wife, Geetanjali J. Angmo, questions the hospital’s report from Safdarjung Hospital. She highlighted discrepancies in the potassium levels reported, stating that Wangchuk’s level was recorded at 2.9, down from 4.3 just a day earlier.

Geetanjali took to social media platform ‘X’ to express her concerns. She sought permission to transfer Sonam Wangchuk to another lab for a second opinion, but was denied. Additionally, she claimed that her request for a blood sample to be taken in her presence was also ignored, preventing her from seeking further tests elsewhere.

She mentioned waiting for hours for a response from the hospital, expressing anxiety over the lack of transparency. The family has demanded an immediate discharge to transfer Sonam Wangchuk to a hospital of their choice. However, there has been no immediate response from the hospital regarding this request.

Previously, the Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) and Safdarjung Hospital had issued a health bulletin for Sonam Wangchuk. According to the report, the 59-year-old was brought to the hospital by Delhi police at 7:40 AM on July 18. He had been admitted after not eating for nearly 20 days and was in a state of general weakness.

The hospital reported that upon admission, Sonam Wangchuk was fully conscious, with stable pulse, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation levels. However, tests indicated signs of dehydration. Blood gas analysis showed compensated acidosis, and serum potassium levels were low. His blood sugar was recorded at 78 mg/dL.

The hospital noted that the urinary ketone level was 1 plus at the time of admission, which increased to 3 plus by 1 PM. Doctors recommended intravenous fluids, oral rehydration fluids, and necessary medications, but according to the health bulletin, Sonam Wangchuk refused these treatments.

Safdarjung Hospital stated that he is under continuous monitoring, and a team of doctors is attempting to persuade him to accept treatment. Currently, the situation regarding Sonam Wangchuk’s health and treatment remains under observation between the family and the hospital.
